In 1607, settlers established the New World's first permanent English colony at Jamestown. The state of Virginia, as the birthplace of modern America, was in the national spotlight during all of 2007, as the nation celebrated its 400th anniversary.
Even though Jamestown was at the center of the commemoration and celebration of the important event, communities were established throughout the state to participate in the year-long celebration. Each community hosted events and programs to highlight its unique history and culture.
Fairfax County, as part of its celebration,
published a legacy book titled
"Fairfax County Stories 1607-2007."
The book, a historical anthology, includes more than 30 interesting and colorful historical essays, stories and anecdotes exploring the development of Fairfax County over four centuries, along with remarkable photographs and illustrations. The book even features a ghost story for kids.
This Web site shares some of the stories, as well as the special perspectives that inspired the authors. The calendar of events lists the continuing programs to promote readership and sale of the Jamestown 400 legacy book.
